Kidney Scams Pray on Kidney Disease (CKD) with Fake Cures
As a kidney patient, you are certain to run across many products promising to cure kidney problems, fully repair your kidneys, and quickly boost kidney function. Most of these scams are sold as herbal solutions and take small nuggets of real data and manipulate it to appear as if this combination they provide may help kidney patients. Their website may even include glowing testimonials from a list of made-up people, often using stock photos or stolen images from social media sites to represent these fictitious people.
The truth is there IS NO CURE for kidney disease. There is NO WAY to repair your kidneys. You CAN NOT undo the physical damage. What you CAN DO is live a healthy lifestyle and eat a balanced diet based on your labs (your doctor and a renal dietitian can help you). You can make changes that MAY help reduce the burden on your kidneys (your health care team can recommend changes). This MAY result in improved kidney function. Randomly taking magic pills that claim to do the impossible WILL NOT improve your health and may actually accelerate further kidney damage, leading to kidney failure. Any promise of a cure or guarantee to heal your kidneys should be a red flag.
How These Fake Kidney Cure Scams Are Promoted:
The scammers often post these as comments to social media post that look something like:
"Excellent video content! Apologies for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you considered - LATEST FAKE KIDNEY CURE SCAM (should be on google have a look)? It is a good one of a kind product for uncovering the secret to get rid of your kidney disease minus the hard work. Use Extreme Caution to avoid kidney scams:
While the scammers continue to come up with new names and tricks for their scam products, BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS with any product promoted using any of the following terms, email addresses, fake doctors, or promising to heal your kidneys. ALWAYS check with your doctor BEFORE attempting any of the programs promoted online, especially those promoted on social media or through a Clickbank link (Clickbank links allow anyone to promote a product and get a referral fee for each purchase - which can be abused by "affiliate partners"). Always be on the lookout for scammers who hi-jack the names of real hospitals, organizations, or doctors in an attempt to gain your trust - make sure you are dealing directly with the hospital, organization, or doctor. When in doubt, always check with your health care team - they are your best resource for treatment, medication, supplements, and diet advice. All of the phrases below have been used to spam the comments of Dadvice TV videos with links promising to heal or cure kidney disease/HIV/or Herpes, which, in my opinion, makes them suspect.

Stopping The Fake Kidney Cure Scammers:
Many of these scammers rely on people doing a Google search for the products they promote and do not want you asking your doctor before purchasing. Be extremely cautious of anyone not encouraging you to check with YOUR health care team before making changes to your diet or treatment strategy. Changing your medication can be dangerous - always consult with your health care team before changing your medications. Some scammers promise you can stop taking your kidney medications - this dangerous advice should be reviewed with your health care team first. In my opinion, those promising a cure or encouraging you to stop taking your kidney medication are putting your health at risk. And remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is a scam. Your best source for managing your kidney disease is YOUR health care team.
Educate Yourself & Work with YOUR doctors:
While scammers promise a quick fix they can not deliver, you can help yourself by educating yourself about Kidney Disease, Nutrition, and living healthy. There are many great books, webinars, and other resources available from trusted sources. Check out these recommendations:
